monochromatic abstract art project
A second grade monochromatic tempera paint lesson plan, where children learn about tints + shades of a primary color. Students learn +/or review which colors are the primary colors, using a color wheel. Students learn about tints + shades while learn how 2 mix them. Every student successfully completes this lesson. This lesson plan includes reference materials, visuals of the art lesson, along with a lesson plan.

Students will, successfully make a monochromatic abstract painting using tints + shades of the color. They will gain knowledge about what shades + tints of a color are. Students will mix tints + shades, then add them 2 their paintings.

- tempera paint - blue or red, white, black

activity
1. Show students examples of monochromatic color schemes.
2. Use a color wheel 2 show students which colors are primary + their locations.
3. Demonstrate painting large enough for all students in class to see details.
4. See example pictures for demonstration of painting steps.
5. Use only 1 color (red or blue).
6. Mix white with color to get a tint.
7. Mix black with color 4 a shade of the color.

- Color - The visual sensation dependent on the reflection or absorption of light from a given surface. The three characteristics of color are hue, value, and intensity.
- Cool colors - Colors suggesting coolness: blue, green, + violet.
- Organic - Refers to shapes or forms having irregular edges or to surfaces or objects resembling things existing in nature.
- Line - A point moving in space. Line can vary in width, length, curvature, color, or direction.
- Primary Colors - Refers to the colors red, yellow, and blue. From these all other colors are created.
- Warm colors - Colors suggesting w red, yellow, + orange.
- Tint - Color lightened with white added.
